Is Colt Brennan Timmy Chang v2.0?

April 28th, 2008 · News

Yesterday Colt Brennan was the only Rainbow Warrior picked during the NFL draft. While there are stories of late round draft picks becoming high performing NFL caliber players, one can’t help but wonder if Brennan’s trip though the professional ranks will outshine that of another former UH quarterbacking wunderkind.

Remember, that kid with the inflated stats was also pumped up and sold to the NFL by then UH coach June Jones.

For those with television sitcom attention spans, The Stink offers a look back at the failed draft and eventual signing of the then Arizona Cardinals free agent pickup Timmy “Tim” Chang.

Colt Brennan Drafted By Washington Redskins

April 27th, 2008 · News

The NFL Washington Redskins have used their mid-sixth round pick (#186 overall) to select former UH quarterback Colt Brennan.

It seemed Brennan’s surgery could have dropped him from GM’s draft boards, but recent in interviews he has addressed critics with a positive mindset. The familiar criticisms are highlighted in the ESPN draft summary.

However, there are substantial concerns about the Hawaii spread scheme inflating his numbers and he doesn’t have great arm strength, either. His recent hip surgery raises concerns about Brennan’s ability to stay healthy.

It is worth noting that Washington had three sixth round picks and used the first of the three to select:

Georgia Tech’s Durant Brooks, a punter (#168 overall).

Assuming Brennan makes the cut he’d serve as a developmental third string quarterback behind Jason Campbell and Todd Collins.

Oddly, the Redskins.com headline mentions Brennan in its headline, but not the story itself.

Update: Davone Bess is headed to the Miami Dolphins and, according to SB’s Dave Reardon, was told that slot and punt return jobs are open. Between the two Bess might have the best shot at seeing playing time next season. Also, Ryan Grice-Mullins is a Texan via free agency.

Hawaii Geek Meet in Brief

April 26th, 2008 · News

Visited the well-attended Hawaii Geek Meet this past weekend.

There are lengthier reviews online, but here’s our terse and, hopefully, sufficiently geeky review of the event:

  • Increased exhalations meant more CO2 for photosynthetic processes.
  • One more event feature writers could use to keep their editors at bay.
  • Dust mites feasted mightily on the bounty of dead skin flakes.
  • Spork manufactures price index saw an increase of .0037 percent growth during the following market open.
  • Nobody got punched in the throat.

Fun for all! See you next year!
