Bob Jones: KHON Better Off Without Moore

February 7th, 2006 · 5 Comments · News

In his latest column Bob Jones suggests that KHON would be better off releasing Joe Moore from his tenure and replacing him with Leslie Wilcox.

Jones thinks this would be the tonic needed to fend off the ratings surge from KGMB, the station who went through a similar automation overhaul back in the 80s.

Wilcox wouldn’t be a bad choice, but who would you like to see behind the anchor desk besides Moore?

How about bringing in Bob Sevey as anchor, with Bob Jones reporting. You can have Joe stick around to do sports. And since they already have Linda Coble, the set is complete.

What better way to trump your competition? “KHON… Old-school KGMB.”

    Or not.

That isn’t a bad idea. Doing so might cause Checkers & Pogo to reappear in the time slot before the afternoon news.

Now where are those Simpsons reruns on K5?

I’d like to see Marisol Borromeo or Maria Quiban. You asked.

I’ve always had a soft spot for that old beast Joe Moore, if only because he’s always one step away from an on-air nervous breakdown every night. At the same time - perhaps it’s a generational thing - I couldn’t care less about what Bob Jones says anyway, especially if it’s about the Hawaii media. Pot, meet kettle.

That said, if The Beast were to step down (or burn out) any time soon, I wouldn’t mind Leslie, Ron Mizutani, or Jai Cunningham replacing him on the anchor’s seat.

Speaking of KGMB, I just finished writing about their news team on my blog a few minutes ago… [/blog pimping]
