In an interview with the Star-Bulletin’s Burl Burlingame, television screenwriter Lee Goldberg claims he’s seen the “new Hawaii Five-O” movie and not surprisingly it stinks.
“That was a great series and deserves to be brought back as a movie or as a series of novels. The movie sucked — the new movie, the one they made a few years ago and never released.”
A terrible movie made from a decent television show? Now there’s a concept. That is, if even a beast such as a shelved “Hawaii Five-O” flick exists. Perhaps Goldberg is more of a screenwriter than we know. Permanent Midnight anyone?
Update: Lee Goldberg writes “He mis-quoted me. I saw the unsold HAWAII FIVE-O pilot, not a movie.” Ah, that explains everything. And yes, from what we’ve heard it was crap.

Yeah, I remember when they were out here filming that pilot. I was supposed to audition for a small role but had exams in college at the time and couldn’t do it. I remember Gary Busey was supposed to take over the Steve McGarrett role but I don’t remember who was supposed to play “Danno”.
