Deconstructing Dominic Monaghan

January 11th, 2006 · No Comments · News

In an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dominic Monaghan (Charlie of TV’s Lost) made quick work of The Aloha State.

Here’s an analysis of a few things Monaghan said on DeGeneres, from a summary:

LORD OF THE RINGS star DOMINIC MONAGHAN insists Hawaii’s police are making it impossible for him and his LOST co-stars to race home after shooting the hit TV show.

Fair enough. Everyone hates work and wants to get home, right? Especially when you get to play pretend all day with beautiful talented people. And the cast of the show is pretty hot too.

What? There’s a lot of hot union workers in Hawaii.

The actor is one of seven Lost stars who have been pulled over for speeding or drink driving in the past 18 months, and though he refuses to comment about those who drive under the influence, he’s begging traffic cops to give the speeders a break.

Speeding and drunken driving in Hawaii, particularly on Oahu where Lost is filmed, is an increasing problem.

According to the Star-Bulletin piece Oahu traffic deaths rising “The total of 75 so far this year tops the ’04 tally and includes 34 pedestrians.” At least 3 of these deaths occurred while pedestrians had the right of way and were within crosswalks.

We think there’s been at least one Hollywood style, high speed, island wide chase each year in the 2000’s. So speeders, give the cops a break.

He says, “I think two people got arrested (for drink driving), and I’m not going to talk about other people’s stuff. (The rest of us) get speeding tickets.

We’re not completely sure, but we think two cast members were arrested for DUIs. Nothing gets by those brilliant actors.

“The reason we get speeding tickets is there are only three roads in Hawaii, so if there’s a police officer sat on any one of those roads they’re going to get us.

Oddly enough, Dom’s right this time. Technically there’s an infrastructure supporting a the metropolitan Honolulu, but yes, to them city folk like Dom there’s only three: H1, H2, and H3. Three intestates is all we got.

There’s even a site devoted to them: www.hawaiihighways.com.

“(But) we’re not that badly behaved, we do good work.”

He’s probably right, but there’s been stories in the old inbox… naughty stories.

And the British actor has even suggested that his girlfriend and co-star EVANGELINE LILLY may have been an eighth member of the cast to get pulled over.

Appearing on this morning’s (11JAN06) ELLEN talk show in American, the cheeky actor told host ELLEN DeGENERES, “Here’s the thing about Evangeline Lilly and I’m going to get in trouble about this but, on her driver’s license it say’s NICOLE LILLY - because that’s her name… She can fly under the radar. (She’s) a liar and a thief.”

Life imitates art?

Drive home safely.
