ABC’s Lost is iTunes Topper, But More Content Needed (Updated)

December 1st, 2005 · No Comments · News

LOST continues its domination of the iTunes Top 100 Videosicon.

Even before reading the headline off the PR wire “iTunes Music Store Sells One Million Videos in Less Than 20 Days” Lost kept beating the competition senseless. Occasional reader and long time curmudgeon, Kari even went out and bought the new video iPod days after our initial sighting. Now all she talks about is her collection of David Bowie butt shot video clips she keeps on the 30 Gig. But we digress.

It’s been exactly one month since this quote:

“Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal video downloads,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods.”

Sure, one month isn’t much time in the realm of distribution rights negotiations, though it might as well be the ice age for television fans who want content. Five ABC/Disney shows are okay, especially when LOST is one of them, but here’s ten shows we’d like to see on the iTunes Music Store:

  • NOVA (PBS)
  • FRONTLINE (PBS)
  • The Daily Show (Comedy Central)
  • South Park (Comedy Central)
  • Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) — Any of their original programming would be awesome
  • Howard Stern (E!)
  • Best Week Ever (VH-1)
  • $40-a-day with Rachael Ray (TV Food Network)
  • Flight 29 Down (NBC) — so that we might actually watch it
  • SportsCenter (ESPN)
  • Gilmore Girls (WB)

Heck, we’d even take Dog the Bounty Hunter (A&E) if it were offered. iTunes does have a suggestion box for everyone’s requests. If you enjoy their service let them know you want more content,
other services are catching up.
