Hawaii’s Apple Store is located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. A few of us stopped by over the weekend and got a good look at the new iPod with video. We got stuck there for an hour as our editor watched an episode of Lost. So if you’re looking at getting an iPod they’re in stock. We overheard someone mention that the black iPod was available, but only in the 30Gb. The white 60Gb iPods were in stock. Either way they’re about half the size of the previous generation iPod.
Earlier in the week we saw some buzz on the web concerning the release of the Xbox 360 kiosks at WalMart. The map we saw didn’t point at any metropolitan cities getting in on the action. Appearently this isn’t the case as the WalMart near Ala Moana has a kiosk manned by 8-year-old kids at all hours. Are these kids urchins? Where are their parents fer crying out loud?
The running demo looked like the King Kong game based on the movie and put the kid playing the game in the role of a guy who was tasked to distract a dinosaur while his comrades opened a gate. While we can’t speak of the gameplay we will say the graphics were impressive. Though others still didn’t think it lived up to the promise of photo-realistic characters and lighting. You’ll have to drop by the WalMart and check it out for yourself.
If anyone knows if the Mililani and Kunia WalMarts have kiosks as well, be sure to let us know in the comments section. Now we’re going to dig around the office sofa for some spare change.
