Dictonary fails Bill Parcells: The Stink Breakdown

June 14th, 2004 · No Comments · News

The comment made by Dallas Cowboy’s coach Bill Parcells was alarming to us, not for his use of language, but NFL fans at The Stink thought he was a smarter man.

>You’ve got to keep an eye on those two, because they’re going to try to get the upper hand. Mike wants the defense to do well, and Sean, he’s going to have a few … no disrespect for the Orientals, but what we call ‘Jap’ plays. Surprise things. … No disrespect to anyone.

More quotes from a great piece by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Kevin Gorman:

>I think, in today’s society, you have to be careful what you say… You have to be downright foolish to say, ‘I don’t mean to offend anybody, but…’ If you’re going to preface what you say by saying you don’t mean to offend anybody, then common sense should tell you not to say it. Society does not allow a disclaimer before you offend somebody.

>”The only reason people are sensitive about race is (because) race is a problem in this country,” said. When asked by a white reporter if he really believed that, he glared at his questioner and snapped back: “You don’t? That’s because you’re white.”

We love words. Words are good things when you know how to use them — and defuse them. Humor is always good in situations like these and we think The Stink’s favorite local comedian Paul Ogata nails it with his just released [jap ass t-shirt](http://www.paulogata.com/).
